Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott North Platte

When we travel across the country I try to book exclusively at Marriot properties. For the most part we have found the rooms to be clean and comfortable, perfect for an overnight stay before hitting the road each morning. This particular property did not meet what we normally expect when staying at a Fairfield Inn. The room was clean but dated, the TV kept shutting off or the sound went mute, These incidents made it difficult to follow the World Series game that was on. When I went into the hall to get ice from the ice machine on the second floor it was broken with a sign that stated I could find ice on floors 3 or 1. I went to floor 3 and found another sign claiming a broken ice machine. I finally found ice on the first floor. Up and down just to get ice was frustrating. The front desk staff was exceptional, and even though we did not eat breakfast, the room looked clean and the breakfast buffet was full. I would stay again, but lower my expectations before checking in.

The Fairfield Inn at North Platte is in a great location. It is off the interstate and close to many local restaurants and sites. The room was clean and well taken care of. Housekeeping was every other day, I believe. The beds were clean and comfortable although softer (you sink in) than most mattresses I experience on travel. Breakfast was hit and miss. Sausages were not always cooked (warmed?) through. My 10 year old son is used to making waffles for hotel breakfast; here there are prepackaged warmed up waffles that he did not like (possibly too sweet?). I did have access issues: 1) our room key did not work the following day unfortunately during a down pour (was resolved with a reprogramming) and 2) there was miscommunication between front desk and housekeeping regarding my requested late checkout (housekeeping apologized and it worked out). Staff was courteous and friendly. I would stay here again.

Everything was clean. Wonderful service. The roaches were a bit of an unwelcome experience though. I understand them being outside the building but crawling under the doors?! I don’t think so. A few in the room when we woke up made for a fast pack and leave. After being woken by nonstop slamming doors of course. We probably won’t be coming back.

We did the mobile check-in, so we were quickly able to pick up our keys when we arrived at the hotel. They must have recently updated their room TVs because they were much bigger than some of the other Marriott properties we have stayed at. They were big. The rooms were clean, with no funky smells. Internet speed was adequate -- wife was watching Netflix on her iPad and downloading shows for the next day. Only negative was that they were out of body wash in the shower, so had to use the bar soap next to the sink. Didn't find out about that until morning, and by then it wasn't a huge inconvenience. Usual breakfast items available for a Fairfield Inn. No juice machine, but they did have apple and orange juice in a pitcher near the milk fridge.

Falsely claimed that my dog had urinated in the room in order to get a $250 cleaning fee, and refused to believe me when I said that wasn’t possible (I was in the room for the whole morning and saw/smelled nothing). I planned out my road trip specifically to be able to stay at a “pet friendly” Marriott. I should have stayed literally anywhere else possible. Super charming town, but awful Marriott.
